Als ik ’s morgens vroeg naar mijn werk fiets kom ik altijd de mooiste slakken tegen op de weg. Van hel oranje naar een zachte mooie zandkleur. (Sorry, voor een foto moet ik teveel geduld opbrengen en ben ik te laat op mijn werk. Iedere keer wanneer ik een foto wil maken, zie ik er geen één) Ik weet niet wat het is met mij en slakken, het is de spiraalvorm van de schelp die me heel erg boeit en die je ook overal in mijn werk terug ziet. Buiten slakken ben ik ook dol op ammonieten, ook vanwege de spiraalvorm waarschijnlijk. Ik verzamel ze al een tijdje, maar koop ze maar zo heel af en toe anders is de lol er een eind af. Twee van mijn quilts zijn hier op gebaseerd, de een is op basis van zeefdruk en bij de ander heb ik de verf opgebracht met een creditcard. Het is heel gek, de zwarte quilt was er eerst, omdat ik het ontwerp zo mooi vond wilde ik dezelfde truc nog een keer toepassen, verf opbrengen en hierna borduren, op de een of andere manier wilde dit niet meer lukken. Ik haalde steeds positief en negatief door elkaar. Nog steeds weet ik niet meer hoe ik het gedaan heb en brengt het ontwerp me in de war. Ik heb me door iemand laten vertellen dat de spiraal het oneindigheidsymbool betekend. Sinds die tijd is mijn fascinatie nog meer gegroeid, ik heb ook gemerkt dat ik bewust en onbewust de spiraalvorm heel erg veel gebruik. Als ik door mijn portfolio blader zie ik het iedere keer weer terugkomen. Zijn er meer mensen die dit herkennen?
When I cycle to my work every morning I see the most beautiful snails on my way. From bright orange to a very soft sand colour. (I am sorry, I am too impatient to take a picture and than I am probably too late for work also. Every time that I want to make a picture, I see none) I don’t know what it is with me and snails, it’s the spiral from the shell that fascinates me, you see it every ware returning in my work. I also like ammonites and fossils, probably because of the spiral shape. I collect them for a while, but buy them seldom because otherwise it’s no fun. Two of my quilts are based on this theme, one of them is a screen-print, on the other I applied the paint with a credit card. It is funny the black one was there first, because I liked the design that much, I wanted to make another one, same way, applying paint and embroidering, one way or another, I couldn’t manage it. I keep mingling positive and negative. Still I don’t now how I did it and the design confuses me. Somebody told me that the spiral stands for infinity. Since than my fascination is grown even more, I noticed that I use the symbol consciously and unconsciously. When I browse threw my portfolio I see its returning very often. Do you recognize this?

Sounds as though spirals are one of you personal symbols and your work with them is lovely. Did you ever read the book Collage for the Soul? I found that really focussed me on the symbols that have real meaning for me and which keep appearing in my doodles and art as well as in the work that attracts me by other people. Debbi B
