Ik kreeg 2 boeken met de post mee zaterdag. De ene is Artist Trading Cards en de andere is
Fabric Memory Books van Lesley Riley. Al is mijn Engels toch heel redelijk te noemen, voor het laatste boek moest ik toch af en toe het woordenboek erbij pakken. En dan meer om er achter te komen wat ze met sommige materialen bedoeld. Het letterlijke woord vind je niet in het woordenboek dus is het een kwestie van de omschrijving vertalen. Hier voel ik me nog wel eens onzeker over. Bedoeld ze nu dat en is dat hetzelfde als ze hier in Nederland verkopen? Op dat moment voel ik me toch heel dom en onhandig. Nogmaals de zin lezen, staat dat er echt? Zouden er meer mensen zijn die hier mee worstelen? Wanneer komt er eens een woordenboek op ons vakgebied? De foto’s zijn geweldig maar ik vertik het om alleen plaatjes te kijken. Dus zet ik knarsetandend door. Het zal nog wel even duren voor ik het uit heb maar de wil om te leren is dwingender. Wat is in vredesnaam ephemera?
Saturday I got two books by the mail. One is Artist Trading Cards and the other is Fabric Memory Books by Lesley Riley. Although my English is quit well for this last book I needed a dictionary now and then. What does she mean by these tools of craft etc? The exact word doesn’t show in the dictionary so I have to translate the definition. I feel rather insecure about this. Does she mean that tool and is it the same material as they sell in the Netherlands? At that moment I feel pretty stupid and clumsy. Again reading the sentence, is that what it’s really saying? I wonder if there are more people how are struggling with this? When do they write a dictionary on our branch? The photographs are really great but I refuse just watching pictures. So I continue stubborn. It will take a while before I finish the book but the will to learn is stronger. What on earth is ephemera?

Hi Jacqueline! I got that lesley riley book recently too. Maybe I can help. Ephemera is what crafters call bits and pieces of old papers, letters, photos, old postcard and things of that sort. Can you tell me what page you're seeing the other phrase on so I can look at it in the book and maybe translate for you?
Hi Jacqueline I think she means the things you use all the time like scissors -heat gun-rulers etc you know the everyday stuff you use to create your art.
But I am sure Sue B will answer exactly for you when you let her know what page you were looking at.
