Melancholy

Like I told before, we live near by the beach. For us it is very common, we grow up with it. When I was young you could find us almost every weekend there when the weather was good. Actually I am not a beach person at all, I think I am wasting my time to be honest. (my mum loved it)The only time that I really like the beach, is when the weather is not good enough for sunbathe and the beach is almost empty. I like the quietness and the nature around me. There is a little beach near by where my sister and I like to go. You can find all kind of fossils, shells and shark teeth. Although it is decreasing a bit. From the beautiful twisted shells I made necklaces (you only had to make a hole in it) but you can’t find them anymore. I remembered (this had been nice for my TIF from March) that when we walked on the beach, my mum could name all shells by name. A lot of them I have forgotten, and that makes me a bit melancholic. I thinking about this a lot: We are so spoiled with our computers etc. and I wouldn’t miss blogging for the world, but it is at the cost of many other things. Most children nowadays couldn’t name most birds, plants or something as common as shells by name. We don’t know exactly when it starts raining or so. ( I come from a family of farmers) Actually we almost lost contact with nature and I think that’s sad. This week I was on the beach with my sister, the yield was very poor. (I use shells in my quilts too) but I enjoyed it that Evi was frisking between us, asking names of the shells. She enjoyed the beach as much as we did when we where young. I hope that this is gonna last for a long time.

A lovely story Jacqueline. I don't think its just computers that keep us occupied nowadays, everybody is so busy rushing and tearing about that no-one has time anymore for these simple pleasures.
And isn't it strange that the places closest to where we live are usually the ones we never get to appreciate properly.

Don't be melancholy Jacqueline - I think we have the internet and our high tech ways of living to thank for the enormous craft revival - look at all the people that are making toys, crocheting, felting and sewing - it wasn't that long back when it looked as if they would be dying out! In Australia where we are blessed with an incredible climate (or at least it is in some parts) people spend a lot of time outdoors and I don't think that will change because it feels so good! I love the way so much of your art looks as though it is inspired by nature - the colours and textures etc. Beautiful pictures too by the way.

I love the beach at anytime of the year - Summer and Winter!! Our lives change and different events take over - but isn't it nice to return and remember....

P.S. I have so much of your blog to catch up on, so next time I'm at the computer, I'll have my coffee with me, and I'll have an enjoyable browse through all of the entries I've missed out on....
