In de vakantie ben ik begonnen deze lap te quilten met een soort fantasie letter/ teken.
De bedoeling was om dit als een soort basis te gebruiken voor een quilt, er komen dus nog wat laagjes over heen. Door het quilten ontstaat er een stevigere ondergrond, dat is soms prettiger om op te werken. Omdat mijn oude machine niet meer naar behoren werkte zag ik te laat dat hij aan de onderkant stukjes had overgeslagen. Ik heb ze nu allemaal voorzichtig los gehaald en probeer ze nu te herstellen maar een hele quilt stikken gaat sneller en het mooie is er al vanaf aan de achterkant want je blijft het toch zien. Normaal maak ik me niet zo heel erg druk over de achterkant van een quilt. Ik vind het echt van ondergeschikt belang omdat ze toch tegen de muur hangen maar hij moet wel aan bepaalde voorwaarden voldoen, dus geen loshangende steken. Waarom heb ik niet eerder gekeken aan de achterkant dan was ik tussentijds gestopt???? GGGRRR…Aan de bovenkant was er namelijk niets van te zien dus ik had het niet verwacht en ik was weer eens te driftig bezig.
Nu kost het me dus meer tijd, wijze les…
During the holiday I started to quilt this fabric with some kind of fantasy pattern. The purpose was to use it as bases for a quilt, so I wanted to add more layers. By quilting the fabric it is more firm and easily to use. Because my old machine didn’t work well, I saw too late that it skipped stitches on the back. I have now removed the bad stitching and tried to renew it very carefully. Believe me, you can better quilt another piece of fabric; that is much faster and you still see the repair of the stitches on the back. Not so pretty…. Normally I don’t mind the back of a quilt that much because they are all wall hangings.
But still, I don’t want to see loose stitches. Why didn’t I look on the back during the stitching; so I could have stopped on time? GGGRRR…You couldn’t see it on the front and I was too enthusiastic.
Now it costs me even more time, a wise lesson…

What a lovely quilting pattern, it looks like lettering. It complements the pattern on the fabric really well.
You are one clever lady! I spent all afternoon playing with my cheap Brother machine doing FME with the teeth up and the embroidery foot on till I broke a previous repair, then I used it without the foot. Amazing! it worked so much better than when I covered the teeth. Because it's a cheap machine I put all sorts of foil paper and metallic lids off milk powder tins etc. through the machine and amazingly it handled everything, except a very cheap gold thread.
Thank you so much for the tip, it's opened up a whole new area of experimentation that I wouldn't explore with my old Bernina. I will post the post card I have nearly finished on the blog tomorrow
to show you.
