You can guess what I did today off course, although I didn't had much time because there where still a couple of domestic jobs to do. Anyway, my machine and I made acquaintance today! Sharon made a comment on my blog that says that she had a simple Brother next to her Bernina, but the teeth won’t drop down on the Brother, you need a cover for them. I will tell you something about my own style off machine quilting, it is different from what the book says. I NEVER drop the teeth from my sewing machine and I NEVER lower the stitch length back to 0, no matter what the books says. I simply used the space between my foot and machine, as long as you’re quilt (or what ever) can move freely, there is no problem to use it that way. The teeth even helps to get more grip on the backside. As long as you keep it in motion and don’t stay to long on the same place other wise it will jam. I once had a Pfaff that had two positions for the foot, people who have a Pfaff know what I mean, you could set the foot a bit higher, so you don’t have to lower you’re teeth. If this doesn’t work you can also invest in a new foot. Most machines have al kinds of possibility’s. Just play with it, not everything that the books says is the absolute truth.

If that doesn't work, you can also tape a piece of card over the plate, leaving a hole for the needle and free motion that way.
Love the colour of the earth piece. Warm!

I like this earth, the colour and the leafs! And the movement of the stitches,
Andrea
I'd would say that you and your new machine have bonded quite well. The stitching looks great. I usually leave the feed dogs up too when I free-motion stitch.
Looks like you and your machine are doing a great job of getting acquainted. I learned how to do free motion quilting with the feed dogs down, so it is easy for me now, but I know several people who never drop their feed dogs for quilting. They do beautiful work and haven't damaged their machines in any way.
You are such a source of information Jacqueline - and inspiration too!! Love your tinsel cards in the previous post too. My new machine is a Janome - nothing flash but I am really enjoying it! Seems to cope with everything I want it to do!
Your new machine has had a great workout. Nice piece...lovely earthy colour..
Wonderful work, Jacqueline!
Great color! :-)
